Sometimes you need an extra push to get you going, to send you in the right direction. Sometimes the push comes from a friend or family member. Sometimes it comes from a self-help book. Sometimes it’s a “sign” that appear in your life out of no where. And sometimes it comes from a comedy/musical on network TV.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m slightly obsessed with Glee (even though the last season and a half has been kind of ehhh). I’ve been down with Glee since Rachel Berry placed a gold star next to her name and delivered that first note of “On My Own” in the pilot episode. There have been hundreds of quotable lines and tons of memorable moments (let’s not talk about the fact that every Cory Monteith/Finn Hudson mention has me in tears), but after four and a half seasons, there is only one line that still sticks with me.
“You can’t change your past, but you can let go and start your future.”
- Quinn Fabray (Michael, Season 3)
Letting go is probably one of the hardest things we are ever asked to do (read: forced to do for our mental health), but it is a necessity. We can’t continue to blame ourselves for mistakes we’ve made. We can’t keep waiting around for people who don’t deserve to be a part of our lives. We can’t hold never-ending grudges.
When I developed my 25 Before 25 List, several of the items placed on that list were added as a means of letting go of some piece of my past. I want to intentionally leave some of my negative experiences, feelings, etc. behind and use them to affect positive change in my life.
What have you let go of recently in order to start your future?
